Directions-R-US
Hello. This posting is about directions. I have many customers coming in with directions they have printed off of the internet. Often these customers cling to their directions as if there lives depend on them. Others allow me to double check the accuracy. Sometimes roads or exits are closed that are in the directions. Other times, I can give better directions.
We often have 3 types of directions to give. One is the quickest way (least amount of traffic lights and higher speed limits). Two is the easiest way (least amount of turning). Three is the easiest and quickest way (most direct route to the freeway or a highway). We often measure distance in minutes instead of miles so we usually do not offer a shortest way.
We do offer local maps of the state and city we are located in free of charge. I think most car rentals are like this. People often ask for maps out of state or a map of another city. Try a discount store (Target, Walmart, Kmart) or a grocery store for maps of further away locations. Our phone books have some city maps of local cities, but not very many. Our counter has an atlas of the USA that customers can browse at that has more highways and towns than our free map. Only 2 car rentals at my airport have GPS to offer with their cars for a fee.
Once in a while, a customer will argue over my directions and insist on going another way. I usually back off and inform the customer that they may go however they like (I will not be in the car with them). I am simply answering their questions. Post later. Genie out.
